Become a Squiz Supporter
G’day,
I'm Kate Watson, Publisher here at The Squiz.
And I am here to tell you that from today, you're able to become a supporter of The Squiz.
But first, in true Squiz style, let me give you the backstory...
When we started The Squiz, we were a firm no on ever asking you to support us financially.
Why? Well, I guess, when I really think about it, it was a lack of confidence. After all, The Squiz was a brand-new thing. Would anyone even read a free version, let alone something that asks you to pay?
We also had a clear vision for how we'd make money from advertising, with great content partnerships that fit seamlessly into our content. That bet certainly paid off and The Squiz continues to have a strong advertising revenue base.
But times change, and confidence either diminishes or grows. I guess, for us, happily, it's the latter. You've stuck with us. Through the good news and the bad news. And now you've told us: 'I want to be part of something. I want to help you.'
So here it is.
I want to be clear that our content is free and will remain that way. Nothing changes in that regard.
But now you can put your money towards something you believe in: agenda-free news, by an independent publisher. A publisher that cares so much about Australians being informed that we have dedicated a whole part of our business to developing a media literacy program for primary aged kids to ensure the next generation are critical consumers of news and information.
Sometimes when we make a mistake, a typo goes out, or our podcast publishes later than planned, I joke with the team that we aren't saving lives here. It's OK. And that's true.
But, in our own way, we are. Because history tells us that without a citizenry that has access to quality information, and without an education system that ensures our kids are fit to think critically about the world around them, the threats to our way of life are very real.
So if we dare to dream, if we dare to have the confidence to say it to you... please support us. If just 10% of our whole audience gave us $10 a month, we'd be able to do so much more, like launch new products and reach more people.
Our commitment to you in return is that if you do, we will share those plans and make sure you know and feel that your hard-earned money is contributing to a business that not only is your favourite way to get news, but ultimately believes that quality news and information is building a better nation for all of us.
Over to you.
Your friends in news,
Kate Watson,
Publisher
P.S. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at [email protected].
P.P.S: The irony that we’re launching this on a day when cost of living pressures are top of the news is not lost on us… If you’re in a position to support us, we’re grateful, but we know it’s not possible for many right now.
