Squiz Picks for 2025 - Watching
The things Team Squiz enjoyed watching in 2025…
Watching the idiot box - we did a bit of it in 2025. So here are our top picks of the movies, shows and videos we enjoyed this year, and if it helps you with some ‘what do I watch’ paralysis this holiday, we’ve done our job. Enjoy…
At the movies…
![]() One Battle After Another It was flagged as an Oscar frontrunner, and we can confirm that the new Leonardo DiCaprio flick is a great movie - for Leo’s slapstick comedy chops alone, it’s worth a watch… | ![]() Conclave This is the critically acclaimed flick starring some big names about the death of the Pontiff and the process of electing the next one. And there’s a big twist at the end… |
![]() Maggie Moore(s) A really unusual/enjoyable crime movie. John Hamm is the police chief in a quiet town, and 2 women are murdered. The thing is they have the same name… TBH we’d watch anything Tina Fey is in… | ![]() K-Pop Demon Hunters Are we K-Pop fans? Not particularly. Do we like musical movies? No. Are we adults who don’t usually go for this sort of thing? Absolutely. But K-Pop Demon Hunters is fab when you just need to tune out and have some fun. |
A show to watch…
![]() Mix Tape The 4-part series starring Teresa Palmer and Jim Sturgess. It’s a love-through-the-years story, and the soundtrack is everything. If you’re an 80s/90s fan, the throwbacks send a good punch of nostalgia. | ![]() The Pitt We devoured this show, and can’t wait for season 2 in a couple of weeks. The format is what hooks you in - each hour-long episode is an hour of the shift in the emergency room of a large/under-pressure hospital. Five stars, Margaret… |
![]() Trainwreck: Poop Cruise Jodie Speers, our Weekly Wrap co-host, recommended this to us one Friday afternoon after a particularly long week. It was the ‘I can’t believe this actually happened’ bit of telly we needed. And yes, it’s about a cruise with no working toilets. Mayhem ensues… | ![]() Speaking of disasters at sea, this doco on the people and events behind the implosion of the vessel going down to view the Titanic was unforgettable. Five people died, and there are still so many questions about how it was allowed to happen. |
![]() Dept Q Gotta love a good crime thriller from the UK… Matthew Goode is incredibly, well, good in this series about an injured detective who makes his way back to investigate a very tough cold case - it’s one that had us gripped all the way through. And yay, it’s been renewed for season 2… | ![]() Adolescence Did you even live through 2025 if you didn’t watch Adolescence? Taking out the major awards this year, this innovative series was not an easy watch, but it sparked many conversations about boys and the dark corners online. |
A fix for an overstuffed suitcase
If you’re anything like us, packing for the holidays means a bulging suitcase... To help with that, Brisbane brand Simplify Living has created vacuum travel bags that compress with a small handheld pump - squeeze the air out and watch your stack halve in size. Genius... Find out more here.
A short watch…
![]() We’re pretty sure our news director Andrew Williams had this playing on repeat for many weeks this year. In fact, he might still be glued to it. Thoughts and prayers, Andrew… | ![]() It was a big talking point in the media and on the socials after Pulitzer winning rapper unexpectedly ‘went there’. escalating/winning his beef with Drake during his show at the Super Bowl. Definitely a defining cultural moment of 2025… |
We’re not done yet…
We’ve got 2 more of these coming, wrapping up our top picks from our listening and reading recommendations from 2025.
And just to remind you, the Squiz Today will be back in your inbox on Monday, 5 January for another year of doing what we do best - being your shortcut to being informed.
