Deliciousness with The Squiz…
We've sorted through our top cooking, reading, watching, and listening recommendations of 2025, and we’re coming at you first with a special newsletter on the food that floated our boat. Because who knows, maybe there’s some Chrissy/New Year inspiration in here for you.
Today, we’ve got a list of the top 10 recipes that Squizers cracked into this year. From pastas to prawns to pies, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy…
Salads/sides
Spicy cucumber salad We were latecomers to the spicy cucumber salad sensation - we’ve never pretended to be fashionable… But it’s a cool way to enjoy something tasty with your salads, meats, entrees - whatever... |
Maroulosalada If you're after the perfect summer salad to serve alongside a weekend barbecue, the Greeks know what they’re talking about… This one from Instagram chef Marinie Georgallides is fresh, zesty and easy. |
Duck fat roast potatoes Good Food published a ranking of the 10 best potato dishes + recipes, and we think duck fat roast potatoes are rightly placed at #1. But as they say: “There are no bad potatoes, only bad potato dishes with not enough butter in them.” |
Some creative gifting…
Some of the best gifts teach you something new and get you off your phone. Cardigang's DIY kits have everything you need to make jumpers and scarves (yes, even if you've never touched yarn before). Forget panic-buying another candle and consider the gift of a new hobby. It’s the ultimate anti-doom-scrolling device that comes with bragging rights. Take a peek at Cardigang's feel-good kits.
Mains
Singapore noodles This is a winner - delicious, moreish and a nice easy one to have a crack at on a weekend. As a bonus, it’s not only a tasty meal but also a very informative history of the dish - turns out Singapore noodles actually originate in Hong Kong… |
Machboos Rubyan And if you’re looking for a nice rice with a bit of spice, we’ve got just the thing - this dish is called machboos rubyan, and while the recipe recommends prawns, you can sub those out for chicken. |
Neil Perry’s fish pie If you do make it off the couch and to the table, this Neil Perry fish pie is a tried and true classic. The prawns and scallops make it seem fancy, but it’s simple to pull together. |
Porcini ragu A meat-free delight - that’s what this porcini ragu is. It’s moreish and vegetarian - although we reckon you could get creative with a few add-ons. Buon appetito… |
Desserts/cakes
Turkish Yoghurt Cake It’s no secret that a cake is looked upon favourably at Squiz HQ, and this Turkish yoghurt cake recipe hits the spot. Think citrus-y cheesecake, but a bit lighter… |
Caramel slice It’s so good that after trying one bite, our friend/Rampart founder Joe Aston asked if it could be the weekly newsletter prize so that he could rig it and win. We salute you, Joe. |
Fluffy oven-baked pancakes Whip ‘em up in a skillet and put into the oven for 30 mins = fluffy delightfulness. This recipe calls for blueberries - we chuck some frozen ones into a bowl the night before and leave them in the fridge to defrost. |
We’re not done yet…
We’ve got 3 more of these coming over the break, wrapping up our top picks from our listening, reading and watching recommendations. They will be out between 29 and 31 December.
Then we’ll be back in your inbox on Monday, 5 January, for another year of doing what we do best - helping you stay informed, not overwhelmed. Stay safe, have a ball, and we’ll talk soon.
